--------------------------------------------------------------
Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) was as modern as any city I've
visited. It also laid claim to being the home of the world's tallest building,
'The Twin Petronas Towers.' Surrounded by an urban sprawl
that included shopping malls, expensive hotels, museums, fine dining and
any type of entertainment you desired, this was truly a metropolis.
What was striking about the city though was that driving 5-10 minutes
in either direction landed you squarely in the middle of some of the most
primitive landscapes known to man.
A short boat ride up the Lemanek River, where we spent
2-3 days, brought us face-to-face with a tribe known as the Ibans.
They were former practitioners of cannibalism.
